We are a non-profit district working to preserve and protect our water body by partnering with our community leaders to promote a clean, and healthy environment for all citizens by using education along with proven water management practices to improve our water resource.
Our vision is for a community where our residents and general public benefit from the human conveniences that we have incorporated to ensure that Friendship Lake is not compromised in quality or quantity as a valued water resource. Our vision is a community that regularly uses, enjoys, and assists in conservation efforts to keep and maintain this lake for future generations.
Did you know that if you cannot make the board meeting in person, you can call into the meeting and hear what is going on? If you are interested in finding out how to do this, please email Tina Meinen at FLDTReas@friendshiplake.org and I will walk you through the set up process.
What's going on with the Lake?
DAM UPDATE: We are in full construction mode with two major projects currently in process. The embankment part of the dam repair has been completed by Hintz, a local excavation company. Dave Miller has completed the brick repair on the south or lake side of the powerhouse and is working on the north side at this time. Work on the powerhouse repairs by Staab started one week earlier than anticipated, but has been slow due to higher than anticipated water levels. It seems that the weather pattern has been thunderstorms almost every other day making it hard to lower the levels even with the gates wide open. As with any construction project the contractors have run into some unknown problems. The concrete around the dam has deteriorated more than anticipated and will require additional engineering design and reinforcement. The positive note is that these additional costs are covered by the DNR grant and included in the additional contingency money awarded to us earlier in the year.
The next Friendship Lake District board meeting is Saturday, August 31, 2019 @ 9am Adams County Community Center. Agenda will be posted to the left soon.
What's going to happen to our fish during the draw down?
Fish will seek out deeper water and can migrate upstream and down stream as the water level lowers. But the GOOD NEWS is..Jennifer Bergman, Fish Biologist with the DNR in Adams County, has verified that with the full draw down of Friendship Lake, the Friendship Lake District is eligible for a no cost fish restocking program. DNR has also issued a 50/50 grant of $1,713.00 to help with our restocking with a private fishery. The plan is to restock Bass and Pan fish once the lake is back up to good levels in September 2019. DNR will stock Northern Pike in October 2019. DNR will then evaluate our fish population in Spring 2020 & 2021 and will stock based on their evaluation.
Harvester Boat Ramp Construction
T & L Excavation, Todd Dolata, was awarded the construction project. The project is in full swing and the construction is going well.
Thank you Chamber of Commerce for the recognition of all our hard work!
September Fundraising Opportunities
The Chamber of Commerce is hosting a UTV/ATV Poker Run on Saturday September 7, 2019 at Pineland Camping Park, 916 State HWY 13, Arkdale, WI 54613. We have been offered the opportunity to provide the food for purchase that day from 4:00 - 7:00pm. We would work this just as we do our annual brat fry at County Market, setting up around 2:30pm. We need volunteers to help with setup, grilling, serving, and selling of the food to approximately 150 riders, guests, and campers at the resort. If you have not been able to volunteer yet this year this for one of our fundraisers, this is a perfect opportunity. The drawing for the UTV raffle will be at 7:00pm. A very popular local band, Southbound will provide music from 7:00pm to midnight. Please check your calendar and let Karen Pokorny know as soon as possible if you are available. Sign up will also be available at the annual meeting.
The Adams/Friendship Flea Market is under new ownership this year. The new owners have asked us to provide food at their thank you vendor party on Saturday September 28, 2019 serving food and soft drinks to approximately 100 - 150 people again from 4:00 - 7:00pm, just as we do our brat fry at County Market. The only think different is that the owners will reimburse us 100% as a donation to our lake district at a per person price we pre-determine. Please check your calendar and let me know as soon as possible if you can help us that day
